Wines from the new world of Spanish winemaking — these are wines with ultra-fresh fruit and crisp, clean flavours that really sing. Modern wines like this are far removed from the old tired and semi-oxidised styles that were around ten or more years ago. Spain is now a force to be reckoned with in the modern world of wine. Just try this case and find out for yourself.
The Spanish Specials case costs £75 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.
Los Pecadillos Envy Verdejo/Sauvignon 2007, Rueda: Crisp, clean modern and fruit-driven, this wine has tangy citrus fruit that really refreshes the palate.
Centelleo Viura/Chardonnay 2008, La Mancha: The Spanish airen grape freshens the chardonnay here and creates a complex blend of delicious grapefruit and pineapple flavours — a very tasty wine.
Borsoa Garnacha 2008, Campo de Borja: Hugely popular wine, this complex blend of garnacha, tempranillo and cabernet sauvignon works beautifully, the different grape varieties singing together in perfect harmony. Gorgeous wine.
Castillo de Manzanares Tempranillo Reserva 2001, La Mancha: Similar in style to a Rioja, this delightfully mature red is luscious and intense and is a perfect partner to lamb in particular.
