Police this afternoon renewed an appeal for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Oxford during the early hours of Sunday.

At 12.46am, police were called to The Four Candles pub in George Street, after doorman Lee Donnelly, 39, was stabbed in the stomach with a knife.

Mr Donnelly was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, for treatment for his injuries, and has since been discharged.

Det Insp Simon Morton said: “I would like to reassure the community that a team of detectives are working relentlessly to ensure that whoever responsible is caught.

“We are speaking to witnesses and are in the process of reviewing all the CCTV footage in the area.

“It was a busy night in the city centre and there were plenty of people who might have seen something, or someone acting suspiciously.

“I would like to ask everyone who was in the area at the time to think back and, I urge anyone who thinks they have information to help with the investigation, no matter how insignificant they believe it to be, to contact me.”

The assailant was white, about 20 years old, approximately 5ft 8in tall, and of medium build. He had dark hair and was wearing a dark blue or black long-sleeve top, dark blue jeans and white trainers.

Det Insp Morton can be contacted via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
