YESTERDAY morning’s attack on a pub doorman in Oxford city centre was a startling reminder of the reality of knife crime on our streets.
Lee Donnelly was stabbed once in the stomach during an attack outside the Four Candles in George Street.
Thankfully, the burly rugby player is recovering well and we wish him all the best.
But if the blade had been plunged into, for example, Mr Donnelly’s chest then the story could have been very different indeed.
It is, though, a stark realisation of the dangers he and his colleagues face at the doors of our nightspots.
Why would someone feel the need to go for a night out with a knife?
It is frightening to think whoever carried out the stabbing felt the need to be armed.
Lots of people were in George Street on Saturday night and into Sunday morning and we are confident the attacker will be caught – and soon.
