A doorman is today recovering in hospital after he was stabbed in the stomach outside a city centre pub.
Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack at the Four Candles, in George Street, at around 12.45am.
The doorman, who is in his thirties, is currently receiving treatment at John Radcliffe Hospital, for stab wounds.
He is in a stable condition and his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
The attacker is described white, around 20-years-old, approximately 5ft 8ins and of medium build. He has dark hair and was wearing a dark blue or black long-sleeve top, dark blue jeans and white trainers.
The venue and a nearby phone box were cordoned off by police until earlier this morning.
Det Sgt Matt Jarman, of Oxford CID, said: “This part of Oxford is usually very busy, so there’s a good chance that someone who was in the area last night has information which may assist with our investigation. We urge them to come forward.
“At this stage, we think that the incident followed an altercation between door staff and the assailant and are currently following a number of positive lines of inquiry.”
