EVEN a TV show could not help an Oxfordshire woman find her Mr Right.
Liz Wayner, of Yarnton, will appear in the next five episodes of ITV’s Saturday night series Take Me Out, which has been dubbed the new Blind Date.
The Oxford Brookes politics and sociology graduate has been single for about two years and went on the show to find love.
The show, hosted by comedian Paddy McGuinness, features 30 single women.
Miss Wayner, from Yarnton, auditioned for the ITV show after her friend emailed her the application form as a joke.
The 21-year-old said: “There were some interesting people on the show and there were some older guys and a few good-looking ones.”
Single men are introduced to the group and questioned, with the women turning their light off if not interested. If all 30 turn their lights off the man leaves without a date, but if more than one girl is left he chooses whom to take out.
“With one guy, all the lights went out and he had to walk out to Celine Dion’s All By Myself; it must have been such a daunting experience.
“I got down to the final two with one guy, Jamie, he was Irish and I liked his Irish charm and he sang, but he picked the other girl.
“But since then he’s invited me to watch the show we are going to be in with his family. In a way I was slightly relieved, I thought it wouldn’t have been fun if he preferred her.
“A couple of others took my fancy who were quite good-looking, but I still turned my light out because I thought they loved themselves a bit.”
Miss Wayner said Oxford did not have a shortage of nice men, but she had just not found someone she had clicked with.
“The Oxford Brookes guys are pretty nice. Before I went on the show I had been dating and seeing a few people but not had a relationship.”
Miss Wayner, who hopes to work in media production and has been on work placement at Jack FM, travelled to Manchester’s Granada Studios for filming and enjoyed being pampered beforehand.
She said: “It was really fun, it was an eye-opener, but for me it wasn’t a way to find love, although some of the girls that did go on dates are still in touch with some of the guys.
“I like the cliche – tall, dark and handsome. I really don’t like skinny boys at all, my friends always used to say I went for chunky guys but I’m not so bad now.”
Miss Wayner will feature on the show for five weeks from tonight at 8pm.
