THE street fair was one of the highlights of the social calendar in Woodstock.
Townspeople would flock to enjoy a host of attractions in the town centre every year.
These pictures, dating from 1925, were sent in by Judy Oliver, of Churchfield, Stonesfield.
They show the opening ceremony, several views of what was clearly a colourful street parade and a group of onlookers.
Among the most popular sideshows that year was a chute built against the town hall, down which people slid.
One report of the fair stated: “All the town helped, even the town hall authorities lent the cellars for the Chamber of Horrors and you should have heard the shouts proceeding amid the laughter.
“Balloons were sent up; there were Aunt Sallies, hoopla and every thing possible to entice money from the pocket holder.
“A dance after the fancy dress parade raised £150 to lay the foundation for a Scout and Guide headquarters.”
