OXFORDSHIRE features prominently in a new book about the Thames Valley.
Thames Valley County Memories includes nearly 200 pictures illustrating the towns, villages, architecture and scenery to be admired in the region.
The book takes the reader on a journey through Surrey, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, describing the history and modern features of many places of interest en route.
Two of the pictures in the book – the historic Watlington town hall and market day at Witney, both taken in about 1955 – are published here.
The book, part of the Francis Frith collection of local history books, is compiled by Martin Andrew, an architectural and landscape historian and conservation officer for Wycombe District Council, who lives at Haddenham, near Thame.
