ROTARY Club members will be out on the streets on Saturday raising money for the Haiti appeal.

Bicester club members will be shaking tins in the town’s Sheep Street from 9am to 5pm.

And Rotarians in Thame will be outside the town hall in High Street between 10am and 4pm.

Money will go to Rotary charity projects ShelterBox and Aquabox which aim to provide relief for victims of natural disasters.

Each emergency shelter box costs £490 but contains a tent, stove and equipment for 10 people to survive for about six months.

The Bicester club has already paid for two boxes through Shelterbox. The charity’s response team arrived in Port au Prince last Thursday and Virgin Atlantic has delivered an initial supply of 800 boxes, with thousands following.

Club president Liz Yardley said: “Fortunately we were in the position to make an immediate donation.

“The brilliant thing about Shelterbox is that donors know every penny they donate goes to help the victims.

“Because of their network of Rotarian contacts on the ground, distribution by the volunteer teams is always efficient.”
