TEACHING assistant Andrea Law has proved she has got the moves after winning a Latin dance competition.
Ms Law, who works at Langford Village School, Bicester, beat competition from 13 dance couples to scoop the prize at Champions of Tomorrow at Blackpool Winter Gardens.
She and dancing partner and boyfriend David Roberts, from Fenny Compton, near Banbury, also came fourth in the ballroom dance competing against 21 other couples.
Now she is putting her experience to good use by doing the choreography for this year’s Launton Village Pantomime, Rumpelstiltskin, which will take to the stage at Cooper School, Bicester, from February 18 to 20.
Ms Law, 40, of Langford Village, Bicester, has been dancing for three years and currently trains with Step-by-Step Dance School, in Banbury and Brackley. She and Mr Roberts started competing only about a year ago.
She said: “I’ve danced in competitions in Bournemouth, Blackpool, Birmingham and London.
“This cup from Blackpool is the biggest competition we’ve won. My next competition is on the same day as the first dress rehearsal for Rumpelstiltskin, in Birmingham. Then we’d like to enter for the British team, later this year.
“My teacher, Andrzej Mialowski, has been brilliant. I’ve learned so much from him.”
Recently she has been passing on tips to villagers taking part in the 24th annual Launton pantomime.
She said: “I hope I can use this experience when I work with the chorus of the Launton panto-mime, where I’m doing the choreography.
“Working with the 20-strong chorus, including children, is definitely a different sort of challenge.
“I really enjoy the pantomime. It’s a real change from the pressure of competition dancing, and everyone has such fun – cast and audience.”
Panto tickets cost £7 for adults and £4 for children from the box office at the Oxfam Shop, Sheep Street, Bicester.
