Sir – I was very sorry to see Borders close, such a useful place to shelter from the rain while waiting for a bus, but I am equally sorry to see the colossal waste of electricity in the old store.

Every day and night since its closure the extensive lighting has been fully on. It is a colossal waste of resources and must constitute a major carbon emission.

You would have thought it was worth the administrators’ time to pay the train fare of someone to come down to Oxford from Manchester to turn the lights off.
