A man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted in Uffington.

The 26-year-old man was assaulted in Fox Cover View at about 2am on December 27.

PC Gareth Lewis said: “The man sustained a broken cheekbone and eye socket and required an operation to correct the damage.

“Although the incident happened a few weeks ago, a medical specialist now believes that due to the nature of the injuries the man could have been assaulted, rather than sustaining the injuries through a fall.

“The victim doesn’t remember what happened so I am asking people to think back to the festive period and if they were in the area at the time and have some information to help with our investigation, to get in touch.

Four officers, PC Gareth Lewis, PC Louise Russell, PC Rob Mann and PC Richie Paul will be based in the village hall in Broad Street and will be investigating all the crimes that get reported in the area.

PC Lewis added: “Now we have a team of officers purely dedicated to the Uffington area, I would like to encourage members of the community to come and meet us, speak to us and to report any suspicious activity they see to us. We are here to help.”

Anyone with any information about the assault, or any other criminal activity is asked to contact PC Lewis via 0845 8 505 505, or if you don’t want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
