THE Royal British Legion is urging people to line the road to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital on Tuesday as the body of an Oxfordshire soldier is brought back from Afghanistan.

Bomb disposal expert Capt Daniel Read was killed by a bomb in northern Helmand last Monday.

RBL standard-bearers and members from across the county will be leading tributes on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old, of 11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, who was based at Vauxhall Barracks in Didcot, is due to arrive at the hospital at 2.30pm.

People are encouraged to line Headley Way.

Terry Cox, chairman of the Headington RBL branch, said: “We want as many people to come down as possible.

“It doesn’t matter where they are from, everyone is welcome, especially as the weather has warmed up a bit.

“I’ve spoken to some people from Abingdon and other places and they’ve said they go to Wootton Bassett because they didn’t know that we did anything here.

“We’ve been doing this for about two years and we want as many people to know about it as possible.”
