IN the article by Chris Walker (Oxford Mail, December 30), there was a suggestion by Hugh Jaeger, from Bus Users UK, that Rose Hill suffers from an outrageous exclusion from retail and employment opportunities, and that you need a car to live there.
What about Risinghurst and Sandhills? We too have older people and younger families. And woe betide if you have to be at work before 7.30am or finish later in the evening.
You cannot plan a visit to the theatre, late night shopping, church, or nightclubs, as you know you can’t get home – and walking around in the dark at night is not an option for old or young families.
Risinghurst has no buses on Sundays, none after 7pm at night, and none before 7am in the morning, while Sandhills has no buses at all.
Rose Hill is not the only isolated, community. If the county council has money to spare, give us a thought.
Please bear in mind that not all residents are affluent and own a car. Older people still need to continue with a full and active life, and youngsters and foreign visitors need to take advantage of the opportunities Oxford has to offer. Our transport arrangements also need reviewing.
