I WRITE with reference to Des Adderley’s letter (Oxford Mail, December 21).

Having been a life-long Headington and Oxford United fan I can remember the American named McIllvenny playing for Headington in 1950. He played in the right full-back position, number two.

I cannot recall teams having wing-backs in those days. The shirt numbers depicted the positions in which the players played.
