I would like to respond to Dr Taj Hargey’s measured message (Oxford Mail, December 23).
Truth is not always comfortable. John the Baptist lost his head for it, Jesus was crucified for it, and Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley burned for it.
As human beings we should live at peace with each other, with respect and mutual care. But however we may try to rationalise it, our two faiths, Islam and Christianity, are not compatible. And, despite Dr Hargey’s claims, we do not worship the same god.
Christians worship Jesus, who become man at Christmastime. We do not believe that Jesus was just a good man but that he is God himself.
While I respect Dr Hargey, I disagree with the tenets of his faith and his assumptions about mine.
