Hospitals have seen a surge in ice-related injuries during the recent cold snap.
There has been a rise in people with wrist and head injuries at the Horton General in Banbury and Oxford’s John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals since December.
The most common injuries were to the wrist, followed by the head, then arms, ankles, hands and shoulders.
A spokesman for the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Trust (ORH) said the number of people attending the Emergency Department had not gone up because people were not playing sport and had restricted their movements, but there had been more ice-related injuries such as fractures.
Dr Rick Pullinger, a consultant in emergency medicine, said the injuries were particularly prevalent in people aged 45 to 60.
He added: “Typically people were coming in with injuries sustained from slipping on the ice almost as soon as they stepped out of their front door.”
