A COURSE in lambing came just in the nick of time for Roly and Camilla Puzey.
The pair, who run Hill Farm, Little Wittenham, near Abingdon, put their skills to use this week to welcome a newcomer into the world.
The couple have had the farm tenancy for only three months, and this was the first lamb born since taking over.
“At 6kg, he was enormous – a bit of a monster,” said Mr Puzey.
The Puzeys’ training, conducted with a fellow farmer, included hands-on practice with a “lambing simulator” – delving inside a model sheep to see if the “lamb” was coming.
The next fortnight will be busy for the couple, with 50 ewes in the 250-strong flock lambing this month.
The rest are due in March, when the conservation farm, which includes a nature reserve and woodland, will stage a lambing open day.
