For many years, Oxford Brookes University has been viewed with mixed feelings by many residents of Headington.
The proposed redevelopment of the university should be used as an opportunity to not only improve its relations with the local community, but an opportunity for locals to play their part in the fabric of the new building.
I suggest, like the Ashmolean Museum, there should be a wall, where, for the price of a donation to the university, people can have a short message inscribed of, say, 70 characters.
Such messages could include peoples’ names, or family events.
The money raised could go towards the provision of equipment needed by the university.
If Brookes did provide such an opportunity, this would not only create a sense of place for the local community but also something historic.
