A 45-year-old man who lunged at a another man with a knife, only for the blade to fall off, has been jailed.
Maurice Potter attacked Jason Wolstencroft with a serrated steak knife as his back was turned outside a pub.
Potter, of South Street, Banbury, had drunk a bottle of wine and at least 350ml of vodka at home before going to the Cricketers Inn, in Middleton Road, Banbury, on June 1 last year.
Following an argument he attacked Mr Wolstencroft at about 9pm.
CCTV showed Potter hit his victim at least 14 times with the knife’s handle, after the blade had fallen off, leaving him with cuts and bruises.
At Oxford Crown Court, Judge Anthony King jailed Potter for a total of two years and two months after he admitted unlawful wounding, having an offensive weapon and having a bladed article, which related to another knife found in his pocket.
Judge King said: “If ever a case illustrated the folly of carrying weapons and the folly of getting oneself blind drunk it is this.”
