A British bomb disposal expert killed on the deadliest day for Nato forces in more than two months will be named tomorrow.

The soldier, from Didcot-based 11 EOD Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, was killed as a result of an explosion in the Musa Qaleh area in northern Helmand Province this morning, the Ministry of Defence said. His family has been told.

He was the second British serviceman to die in Afghanistan this year and one of six Nato troops killed in a series of incidents today – the bloodiest day for the Nato-led international force in more than two months.

Three US soldiers were killed in a firefight with militants in southern Afghanistan, US military spokesman Colonel Wayne Shanks said.
