AN Abingdon schoolgirl cyclist who died when she fell into the path of a heavy goods vehicle was riding a dangerous bike at the time of her death, an inquest has heard today.
Larkmead School pupil Ty-Ree Partridge, 11, of Gibson Close, Abingdon, was cycling home from school when she wobbled and fell into the path of a lorry in Copenhagen Drive in July last year.
An inquest into her death was told the bike she was riding was in a poor state of repair, having only one rear brake pad and a loose rear wheel.
One eyewitness said he saw the girl wobble just moments before she fell and hit the side of a passing van.
She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with severe head injuries, but died the following day.
She had been wearing a cycle helmet.
Oxfordshire assistant deputy coroner Richard Whittington recorded a narrative verdict.
He said: “Ty-Ree was a pedal cyclist riding her bicycle, which was in a very poor state of maintenance, when she wobbled and fell into the path of a passing heavy goods vehicle.”
