Sir – Between appointments at the John Radcliffe Eye Hospital today I sought refreshment at the in-house Cafe (‘We proudly brew Starbucks Coffee’).
The proudly brewed coffee comes in three sizes: ‘tall’, ‘grande’, and ‘venti’, which the helpful assistant translated for me as ‘small’, ‘medium’, and ‘’large’. I don’t know what the ‘grande’ and the ‘venti’ looked like, but the supposedly small ‘tall’ turned out to be surprisingly large - as all coffees are nowadays. With the ‘tall’ came a ‘60 per cent post-consumer fiber sleeve’ asking consumers (or rather, ‘post-consumers’) to ‘help us help the planet’.
Perhaps Starbucks needs first to be helped to help the English language?
