THE death of William Edwards appears to be a great tragedy in that he was trying to come off drugs.

The 34-year-old collapsed at home and died in hospital at a time when his father says he was looking forward to a drug-free future.

The interim death certificate blamed a combination of heroin substitute methadone, alcohol and anti-depressants.

Class A drugs are an evil and those truly fighting their addiction deserve all the support families, friends and the community can muster.

That William should die so close to winning that battle is a crying shame.
