TO locals in Horspath, Keith Brooks is a true snow hero.
Since snow cut off the village from the rest of the county, the 60-year-old has been making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible – even rescuing a neighbour with a broken leg.
Mr Brooks, of Gidley Way, has been battling through snow drifts up to 40 cm deep to the cash and carry so the village shop is stocked up.
But he has also been towing stranded drivers in his Mitsubishi 4x4 and collecting prescriptions.
Mr Brooks even drove 83-year-old John West, of Blenheim Way, to the John Radcliffe Hospital after he fell and broke his leg.
He waited six hours with him while he was put into a leg brace and allowed to come home.
Mr West and his wife Marie, 74, contacted the Mail to ensure Mr Brooks’s efforts were recognised.
Mrs West, whose vital prescription for high blood pressure was also fetched and delivered by Mr Brooks, said: “Keith has been going above and beyond out of the goodness of his heart. I know some places are clearing up, but we have been completely marooned here..”
Mr West, a World War Two veteran, added: “He has been a great help. We are all very grateful.”
Mr Brooks is more modest, saying: “It’s just something that I do. It isn’t really a big deal.”
But Mrs West said: “We think he is a true snow hero.”
