ARE you fed up with the snow yet? Because, actually, it seems, most people aren’t!
January is usually such a bleak month. The Christmas decorations have come down and the post-festive blues set in.
Except, just in the nick of time, the snow coated our county and made sure life was brightened up.
Okay, so for villagers and some pensioners stranded in their homes, it may not have been such a magical scene.
But at the Oxford Mail we have heard of dozens of tales of people going the extra mile to help their neighbours and communities.
And we still want to hear from you if a neighbour has helped out in the cold when they could have stayed in, beside a roaring fire, with a mug of hot chocolate.
Community spirit has been reignited by the snow.
Just check out the story about Keith Brooks in today’s edition – he has been labelled Horspath’s real snow hero.
And at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, in Headington, hospital workers did not have to be persuaded to sleep over when the weather set in, so patients wouldn’t go without treatment.
It has also been good to see families making the most of the conditions by heading out en-masse and having fun in the winter wonderland.
There is no doubt it has broken the monotony of our daily routines.
Yes, it has been a pain at times, but you can’t deny it has been different. We expect things to settle down this week with an outside chance of more snow on Wednesday Many will think that’s a shame!
Because, just like after the heavy snow falls of the sixties and eighties, people will remember the last few weeks for a very long time.
