THE Ladies Circle’s cake tombola did brisk business in the Market Place in 1986 for the BBC Children in Need appeal. Sally Gibson, Viv Bright and Ann Perry are pictured at the stall.
Mayor Alec Goode is seen in the next picture paying the town’s ‘rent’ for the lease of Wallingford Castle gardens, to which the public have access. A tree – in 1980, it was a cherry – was the payment made to the owner, Sir John Hedges, who looks on as the mayor does the hard work.
Wallingford Day Centre celebrated its 21st anniversary in 1990, and members marked the occasion by cutting a cake. Seen from left picture are Di Peace, Jessie Phelps, Joan Reynolds, Janet Patterson and Jenny Earnshaw.
