Sir – The front page article (December 31), about the Thornhill park-and-ride, raises a question. Banbury Road and Woodstock Road in North Oxford, Abingdon Road and Headington Road are all major entries into Oxford city centre and all have access to park-and-rides. However, in East Oxford, there are two major roads into Oxford, namely Cowley Road and Iffley Road, and we do not have a park-and-ride.
We experience tremendous parking problems, which this paper has written about, and two of the contributors to this problem are commuters and people who wish to park in the evening.
Surely the council hasn’t forgotten us? Where is our park-and-ride? There is a very good bus service straight into the city centre. There is at present a consultation on introducing a residents’ parking scheme, which, if installed, would stop commuters from parking in this area.
Where will they go? They still need to come to Oxford to work.
Why can’t this £4m be spent on a park-and-ride this side of town. Or have the council made a blunder and not earmarked the necessary land?
Kathy Barber, East Oxford
