The Enstone-based Renault F1 team have appointed Eric Boullier as their new team principal.

Boullier has spent the last two years as boss of Team France in A1GP, steering them to championship victory in 2008.

The 36-year-old has also worked as managing and technical director of Team DAMS, overseeing them compete in a number of categories, including the GP2 Series, GP2 Asia and Formula BMW Europe.

Boullier takes over the role at Renault from Bob Bell, who had been acting team principal following the departure of Flavio Briatore in the wake of the 'Crashgate' scandal.

Bell will now oversee the design, production and technical development of the new car ahead of the forthcoming season that starts in mid-March in Bahrain.

Frenchman Boullier is determined to restore the team's credibility after hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons last season, and hopefully return them to winning ways after three years in the doldrums.

The marque is now 75 per cent owned by Genii Capital, a Luxembourg-based firm specialising in new technologies, brand management and motorsport.

Boullier said: "Renault is one of the most famous and successful names in motorsport, and I look forward to leading the team into the new season.

"In the past Renault has demonstrated it is one of the top teams in Formula One, and I am sure that with hard work and determination we can challenge at the front again."
