Waste and recycling collections in some areas of West Oxfordshire are behind schedule due to the continuing icy road conditions.

A district council spokesman said some collections had been suspended for the safety of bin men, residents and their property.

She said: "Please could residents whose waste has not been collected, leave their bins and recycling boxes out."

David Harvey, cabinet member for the environment said “We are trying our utmost to reach as many areas as possible but what with the revised collection dates, to allow for the festive Bank Holidays, and the continuing icy weather we have fallen a bit behind schedule.

“However, our collection crews are working extra hours to get back on schedule, but this will remain dependent on the road conditions”.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the plastic sacks for recycling over the festive period. These have been delivered to all homes in West Oxfordshire and can be used for one recyclable material only - either paper or cardboard or plastic or metal - but not glass.

Extra sacks are also available from:

  • The council’s Town Centre Shops in Chipping Norton and Witney
  • Council’s offices in Woodgreen and New Yatt Road, Witney
  • Carterton Town Council.

In addition to the above, excess waste can be taken to:

  • Waste and recycling centres (council tips) in Dix Pit, Stanton Harcourt and Dean Pit, Chadlington.
  • Recycling banks located throughout the district.
