A round-up of recent cases heard by Oxfordshire magistrates
WITNEY
Linfong Chung, 62, of House Wong Restaurant, High Street, Witney, admitted selling alcohol to people under 18, namely 14 and 15-year-olds on July 17.Fined £360, a £15 victims’ surcharge and costs of £65.
Ross Munro, 31, of Dirac Place, Didcot, admitted shoplifting eight bottles of Baileys, costing £87.92, from Budgens in Bampton on April 26. Three other offences were admitted and taken into consideration. Given 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £79 to Co-op, Saville Way, Grove; £87.92 to Budgens, Kingston Bagpuize; £5 to Co-op, Steventon; and £48 to Co-op, Stanford in the Vale.
Jess Webb, 22, of Oakfield Road, Carterton, admitted using words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress; dropping litter and making off while detained by a police community support officer at Carterton on April 17. Fined a total of £150 plus costs of £25 and a victims’ surcharge of £15.
Benjamin Godfrey, 28, of Elm Close, Carterton, admitted driving a Ford Ka in Cherry Tree Way, Witney, on July 2 without a licence, without insurance and without a test certificate. Fined £200, and ordered to pay costs of £25 and a victims’ surcharge of £15. Also disqualified from driving or obtaining a licence for six months.
BANBURY
Teresa Coles, 44, of Cromwell Road, Banbury, admitted shoplifting a bottle of red wine costing £4.49 from The Local Store in Banbury on July 10. Given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £4.49 and costs of £30.
John Yorkshades, 38, from Letcombe Bassett, admitted driving a BMW Z3 without due care and attention on Chain Road and Ormond Road in Wantage on March 6. Fined £250 and ordered to pay £60 costs and a £15 victims’ surcharge. Also given four penalty points.
Aaron French, 18, of Middleton Road, Banbury, admitted criminal damage to a door lock valued at £100. Given 80 hours’ unpaid work and told to attend an aggression-replacement programme. Also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Christopher Goodgame, 28, of Windmill Road, North Leigh, admitted driving a Vauxhall Astra dangerously on the A4095 between Witney and North Leigh on January 10. Given 100 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £350. Also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
Rebecca Cooper, 25, of Spruce Drive, Bicester, admitted shoplifting toileteries and aftershave valued at £48.36 from Tesco in Bicester on October 11. Given 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £25.
Shane Horwood, 26, of Jerome Way, Shipton-on-Cherwell, admitted drink driving on the A4260 in Kidlington, on October 9, having 66 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fined £100, £15 victims’ surcharge and costs of £35. Banned from driving for 16 months, reducible to 12 months on completion of a course.
Douglas Moseley, 43, of Osprey Close, Bicester, admitted drink driving in Williamscote, on October 9, having 52 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Fined £400 and orfered to pay costs of £85 and a victims’ surcharge of £15. Banned for 12 months, reducible to nine months on completion of a course.
Leighton James, 25, of High Street, Witney, admitted theft of a handbag and contents worth £57, in Witney on September 22; shoplifting alcohol costing £46.49 from Sainsbury’s in Witney on August 15; and shoplifting alcohol worth £61.34 from Sainsbury’s in Witney on August 16. Jailed for a total of 22 weeks.
Sarah Jackson, 41, of Church Walk, Combe, admitted driving while unfit through drink or drugs on May 18 in Charlbury Road, Combe. Handed 50 hours’ unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 costs. Also banned from driving for 18 months, reducible by 135 days on completion of a course.
Daniel King, 27, of Bathing Place Court, Witney, admitted theft by an employee of £2,000 of travellers’ cheques belonging to Royal Mail in Witney on December 1, 2007; theft by an employee of £100, gift cards and 11 DVDs belonging to Royal Mail in Witney between January 8 and July 29; theft by an employee of 1,200 UAE dirhams worth £253.29 belonging to Royal Mail in Witney on February 6; theft by an employee of 33 birthday card packets belonging to Royal Mail in Witney on July 29; and two counts of being a postal services operator delaying or opening a postal packet or mailbag on July 22 and July 28 in Witney. Jailed for six months.
