A mental health patient who attacked an elderly man is on the run from a secure unit at Littlemore Hospital.
Saju Miah, 25, who police have described as unpredictable and warned members of the public not to approach, absconded from the hospital, on Sandford Road, in Littlemore, Oxford, at 4pm yesterday.
Police issued an appeal for information this morning after inquiries overnight proved unsuccessful.
Miah, pictured, is described as Asian, around 5ft 7ins tall, small build, with short black hair and stubble on his chin.
He was last seen wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black tracksuit jacket, white trainers and a black baseball cap.
Supt Rob Angell, leading the search, said: “We are currently doing everything we can to try and locate Mr Miah.
“His behaviour can be unpredictable and violent. I advise anyone who might have seen him, or know where he is, not to approach him, but to contact the police as soon as possible."
Miah, a schizophrenic, was sent to a secure hospital in May 2006 after admitting grievous bodily harm with intent.
Oxford Crown Court heard Miah repeatedly beat a pensioner aged 74 around the head with a rock after following him into an alley in July 2005.
Call 999 if you spot him. Or anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
