We CONSTANTLY hear stories in the press about our Armed Forces in places like Iraq and Afghanistan being ill equipped and coming home to sub-standard dwellings, a totally unacceptable situation for giving the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
If we expect the best we should give the best possible in return, which successive governments have failed to do. I feel there is a common sense of injustice throughout the country at the moment and we need to get back to basics before we can start to regain the respect of the population.
I recently spent seven months unemployed after giving 43 years of full time employment and service to this country.
During my short stint of unemployment I found the social system treated me like a second class citizen, offering little help or support.
I even felt that I was being penalised because I had worked all my life, leaving me with the attitude “why did I bother”.
I get the impression now that if you are an unemployed single mother or a foul-mouthed spitting yob you get anything you require handed to you on a plate. Brand new fully equipped houses and flats, even patio furniture and paddling pools. And that just enforces the easy come, easy go attitude that seems to be the norm these days.
What support do you get for being an honest hard working citizen in this country? None.
It’s no wonder this country is in the state it’s in.
