Meningitis UK would like to say a huge thankyou to the people of Oxford for giving £554.38 towards the charity’s lifesaving meningitis research.

Volunteers from the University of Nottingham’s Karni Rag team raised the money during a street collection held on October 3.

No expenses were incurred in connection with the collection.

At Meningitis UK, we have a single focus – to find a vaccine to eradicate all forms of meningitis.

Sadly, although successful vaccines exist to protect against some forms, there is still no vaccine available to protect against all strains, including the most common form – meningococcal group B, which accounts for almost 90 per cent of all cases in the UK.

Our Search 4 a Vaccine Campaign aims to raise £7m and, through persistent research and with the support of the general public, we are confident that new vaccines can be developed.

Without the continued support from volunteers and the public across the country we would not be able to continue our vital work.
