An Oxford University student has died from bacterial meningitis.

Dr Robert Ellis, principal of Regent's Park College, in Pusey Street, paid tribute to Antonia Bruch, a first year theology student.

He said: “The college was deeply saddened by the death of Antonia Bruch, a first-year undergraduate at Regent’s Park College, from bacterial meningitis.

“Antonia was a student of theology and, although she had only been at Regent’s Park for a short time, she was a popular and valued member of the college.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and friends at this very difficult time.

“The college is receiving advice from local public health authorities.

“All students and staff have received advice and information about symptoms to look out for, and the college is keeping students informed.”
