OXFORD United fans trekked 10 miles from Kidlington to the Kassam Stadium – raising an estimated £5,000 for transfer fees and players’ wages.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas and Milk Cup-winning midfielder Les Phillips, pictured front, centre, joined 20 fans for the three-and-a-half-hour walk before the U’s 1-0 win over Altrincham on Saturday.
Organiser William Wilmott said he was “delighted” with the money raised for the 12th Man fund, which was £3,500 more the expected. He said: “To raise about £5,000 absolutely brilliant, and will be a great boost for club funds. The level of support we have had from everybody has fantastic.”
He added: “Kelvin has really helped boost the amount of money we have raised and we were all very grateful to have him strolling with us.”
