THE Johnston family were expecting things to go with a bang at their home at Headington.
The three boys – Paul, Mark and Nicholas – were pictured by the Oxford Mail in 1961 choosing their fireworks for their Bonfire Night celebrations.
We are not sure where the picture was taken, where the family lived or how many people had been invited to their party.
But judging by the size of some of the fireworks, it looks as if it was going to be an enjoyable – and possibly deafening – one.
