THIS group of men and boys enjoyed life on the water.

They were members of Hannington, one of Oxford’s leading rowing clubs.

The picture belongs to June Hills, of Fairlie Road, Cowley, whose late husband Peter is standing third from the left.

Mr Hills was a long-serving member of the club, competing for 10 years and then enjoying the social side of the sport.

The Hannington club, founded in 1904, merged with Neptune to form the City of Oxford Rowing Club in 1968.

The City of Oxford is now the largest rowing club in Oxford, occupying a modern boathouse near Donnington Bridge.

Its members celebrated the club’s 40th anniversary last year.
