Oxford president Sjoerd Hamburger Pictured) is the only returning Blue named in the current squad of 26 Boat Race hopefuls in training for the 2010 Boat Race, writes Mike Rosewell.
Hamburger, a Dutchman stud-ying at Oriel, is the first Oxford president, whose first language is not English.
Hamburger, 26, heads a cosmopolitan group which includes nine nationalities.
Great Britain and the United States head the list, with nine and six oarsman respectively.
Four members of the 2009 winning Isis crew are still involved and the squad includes twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss from the USA, who were finalists in the pairs at the Beijing Olym-pics.
The last twins to row in the Boat ace were Hugh and Robert Clay, who won with Oxford in 1982, having triumphed with the Isis crew the year before.
Half of the Cambridge squad of 28 is made up of home-grown talent, including last year’s president Henry Pelly, one of fourreturning Blues from 2009.
The other one is this year’s president, DeaglanMcEachern from the USA, who rowed in the five seat in 2009 in direct opposition to Hamburger.
Public appearances before Christmas for the two squads will be at the Fours Head on 14th November 14 and the Trial Eights on December 17.
Unusually, both universities are holding their trials on the same day.
The 156th Boat Race will be staged at 4.30pm on Saturday April 3 and will be screened live on BBC 1, who take over this year from ITV.
This year’s race was televised in 153 countries.
It will again be sponsored by Xchanging.
