Sir – The campaigns by local people against rubbish incinerators at Ardley and Sutton Courtenay were superb (Report, October 22).
The county council is already looking at alternatives, in case an appeal to a Government inspector by Viridor is not successful. But there will be an appeal by Viridor for incineration at Ardley supported by the county cabinet.
Residents and councillors will need to campaign ten times as hard to make sure burning our waste is not an option anywhere in Oxfordshire.
Incineration is only one stage better than throwing refuse into holes in the ground. Mechanical and Biological Treatment (MBT), recycling and moves towards Zero Waste is the sensible, environmental and least expensive way ahead.
