Sir – Martin Sheldon talks about a ‘deafening silence’ from County Hall and ‘a confused situation’ (Letters, October 22).
There have been neither. Oxfordshire County Council made its views clear at a public cabinet meeting on September 15, where it was agreed to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for an Academy at Oxford School based on a paper and recommendations from the Director for Children Young People and Families. Members of the public attended and spoke at the meeting.
The decision to submit an EoI was subject to a ‘call-in’ on October 5 where, again, members of the public participated in the meeting. Both the EoI and the request for an Interim Executive Board are with the Department for Children, Schools and Families in London. Until we have their response we cannot move forward and have the very necessary consultation with all stakeholders. If there is a ‘deafening silence’ it is at the DCSF and not County Hall.
Michael Waine, Cabinet member for school improvement, Oxfordshire County Council
