Postal workers in Swindon who sort Oxfordshire’s mail are out on strike today as the dispute with Royal Mail continues.
Today is the first day of three days of action following on from last week when about 1,000 postal workers in the county refused to work in a protest over pay and working conditions.
Staff in 15 delivery offices — including Royal Mail House off Oxpens Road, and Ledgers Close in East Oxford, Abingdon, Bicester, Banbury and Chipping Norton — are scheduled to strike again on Saturday.
Steve Gill, spokesman for the Communication Workers Union in Oxfordshire, said: “Now the three days of action has started I think it will continue until Saturday, and delivery staff in the county will then take part.”
There are 120,000 CWU workers across the country striking over the next three days with postal staff manning picket lines this morning.
Talks with the Royal Mail which aim to end the dispute over modernisation plans have broken down.
