Robin Aitken is quite right when he says food being wasted while people go hungry is indefensible.
That is why the Oxford Food Bank is such a good idea.
The scheme has already seen 1,000 meals a week distributed to those who can’t afford to feed themselves.
We applaud Sainsbury’s and the Co-op in Kidlington for their role in providing meals to needy people in the city.
Mr Aitken, a spokesman for the charity re-plenish, which launched the scheme, said his organisation wants to do more than scratch the surface of hunger in Oxford.
He said the service could soon provide 5,000 meals a week.
Let’s hope more food outlets sign up to the scheme.
