I WRITE in response to the letter in the Oxford Mail “Try working as a postie before you criticise".
The gent points out that it takes several managers to do the same round while they are on strike. Well, I am guessing as the managers generally don't do deliveries, that they just want to get the post delivered as quickly as possible, and in effect would be helping the striking posties by clearing the back log.
Simple, if you do not like the idea of managers doing the job, then stop striking and do what you are paid to do.
Royal Mail is fast becoming its own worst enemy, and will kill its own industry by constant striking. The majority of the public have no faith in postal services these days. I cannot remember the last time I posted something without sending it recorded, to ensure it got there. Why should I have to do that? A stamp should be sufficient.
On a final note, I would invite the gent to work with me for a day, where the pressure is very great, then go back to delivering letters. I think you will soon admit defeat!
