An RAF pilot who crashed a Puma helicopter killing himself and two passengers did not have the skills to carry out the low-flying manoeuvre he was attempting, a coroner ruled today.
RAF Benson-based Flight Lieutenant David Sale, 28, Sgt Phillip Burfoot, 27, and 17-year-old Army recruit Private Sean Tait were on board a helicopter that crashed while taking part in a training flight near Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, on August 8, 2007.
Twelve military personnel were on board the helicopter when it crashed.
North Yorkshire Coroner Geoff Fell, who is currently summing up at the hearing in Harrogate, is expected to deliver his verdict shortly.
