A WOMAN is aiming to scale Africa’s highest mountain in memory of her father, who died in 2006 from lung cancer.
Ali Smith, of Meadow Way, Carterton, plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in June next year.
She hopes to raise £4,000 for the Mick Smith tribute fund, which was set up by Miss Smith, her sister Sarah Vigar and mum Marilyn Smith.
Miss Smith, 31, said: “I have been fascinated by Mount Kilimanjaro for 10 years, since I first went to Kenya, and I watched the celebrities doing it earlier this year. I want to raise money and for it to be in memory of my dad.”
The tribute fund has so far raised £7,000 to help lung cancer sufferers.
Miss Smith needs to raise £3,750 to pay for the climb and has raised £1,250 through bingo nights and a collection box in Waitrose, Witney.
The next bingo evening is in Browne’s Hall, Alvescot Road, Carterton, on Friday, November 6. Doors open at 7pm and the bingo starts at 8pm. To sponsor Miss Smith, visit justgiving.com/ali-smith
