I FEEL I must reply to some of your correspondents’ comments on my recent letters.
If they read my letters carefully, they would find I have not shown any disrespect to them for their religious beliefs.
I have certainly not attacked them. Surely they should also show some respect for my views.
Several letters have remarked that in the past, and in certain Islamic countries, I would be put on trial for my views and even, perhaps, put to death.
I would remind them that it is not only in some Islamic countries that people with different faiths have been punished.
Even the Christian faith has been guilty of this in the past.
Think of the Spanish Inquisition, or our own Queen Mary I. She had the Oxford Martyrs burned at the stake, and they were also Christians!
Do the correspondents want a return to those days? By the tone of some of the letters they seem to. How very unchristian.
DEREK HONEY, Queen Emma’s Dyke, Witney
