IT’S official – Oxford is one of the brainiest places in the country, according to the Office of National Statistics.
Research found the Parliamentary constituency of Oxford West and Abingdon is home to the largest proportion of people with academic qualifications in the whole country.
Of the 65,500 people of working age in the area, just under two per cent had no qualifications at all, compared to the rest of Britain, where on average 12.4 per cent of people were without academic qualifications.
Figures also showed the proportion of people with university degrees in Oxford West and Abingdon was 42 per cent, compared to the national average of 29 per cent.
Dr Evan Harris, Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, said the figures showed the Government was failing to tackle the national education divide.
