A GROUP of adults with learning difficulties volunteered their time to spruce up Witney town centre.
The project, carried out by volunteers from the Guideposts Trust, was designed to teach new skills, while contributing to the community. It saw people painting the white roadside railings in Church Green.
The charity, which works with people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and Alzheimer’s, involved groups of four to five young adults painting and refurbishing the railings.
The helpers took five weeks to finish the painting project and now plan to take on other small tasks to improve the town centre, such as cleaning street furniture, painting bollards and litter picking.
Volunteer painter Matthew Wilmore, 34, of Stonesfield, said: “I really enjoyed it. It was exciting and fun. I loved it.”
The charity is based at the Independent Living Centre, in Madley Park, Witney. Jill Bull, Oxfordshire community services manager for the trust, said: “We’re really pleased to be doing this and our young adults are enjoying the experience.
“It has done much more than teaching how to paint. They have thought about safety and awareness.”
