HERE are two more pictures of the Eastleigh Brothers’ Concert Party.
As we recalled (Memory Lane, August 31), they were a group of young people who entertained many audiences in the Oxford area in the 1940s and 1950s.
Norman Hodges, Ian Pullin, John Drinkwater, Beryl Loynes (later replaced by Bett Simpson), Pat Dean and Brenda Ward were in great demand.
These latest pictures have come from Mr Hodges, who lives in Australia.
He writes: “The main one shows the bishop, the vicar and the curate.
“I played the curate in the middle and had all the funny lines.
“Ian Pullin is on the left and John Drinkwater on the right.
“We also did another trio about three charladies and, of course, dressed up to suit. The first two lines were: ‘We’re three puffick ladies wot goes out to char ‘Nice, clean, respectaful widders we are’ “I think I had the funny lines in that one as well.”
In the other picture, Mr Hodges, second from the left, is seen with pianist Brenda Ward, extreme left, John Drinkwater and an unidentified woman.
The group was formed by pupils at the Oxford School of Technology, Arts and Commerce, in St Ebbe’s, for a school social and did so well that they decided to branch out and entertain at other events.
