VILLAGERS had a taste of the Wild West when the Rock-a-Billy riding centre opened in 1983. Owner Julia Tanner engaged Wild West acts – trick riding, rope tricks and shoot-outs – to drum up support for her venture. Stephen Volley, 14, is pictured on a bucking bronco bike.
The 35 pupils at the village school helped make a video in 1987, giving tips on how to stay safe in the playground. The idea was to enter it for a national competition.
The village celebrated the opening of its do-it-yourself bus shelter in 1951. It was built by villagers to mark the Festival of Britain year.
